NRG Stadium
STADIUM HISTORY
NRG Stadium opened in 2002 as the home of the Houston Texans (NFL). Capacity 72,220 — the first NFL stadium with a fully retractable roof. Hosted Super Bowl XLVIII (2017), multiple Copa America Centenario 2016 matches, and the 2024 Copa America group stage.
GETTING THERE & LOCAL CONDITIONS
Located in southern Houston, near the Texas Medical Center. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is 35 minutes; Hobby Airport (HOU) is 25 minutes. June-July Houston climate is severe: 32-35°C / 90-95°F with very high humidity. The retractable roof allows climate-controlled play — Houston is the third WC2026 venue (with AT&T and SoFi) where the indoor option is meaningful.
Venue Betting Note
When NRG is roof-closed and climate-controlled, expect tactical patterns closer to European spring norms. When roof-open, expect extreme heat-and-humidity drop-off in late matches similar to Hard Rock. Operational decision on roof state typically published ~24h pre-kickoff.
